Photos of the 3rd doll I ever bought, she's the blue dress doll from the Barbie Fashionistas Clutch Wave. I got her at big lots back in summer 2013, and while she's been through a lot, she's still so special to me and one my all time faves.

Her and the other 5 dolls I got that year could probably be considered the closest thing childhood dolls I had/have (along with my mom's old barbies I had up until earlier that year), even though I was 16 at the time and in high school.

Can you show us your collection?

i love nothing more than talking about my barbies so yes. it’s not very big but i live in a one bedroom in manhattan so there’s only so much room for anything. i’m trying to control myself. 

under a read more in case someone doesn’t care about my barbie collection. 

my fashionistas! i wanted them both since the moment i saw them but put off buying them because i didn’t know if i wanted any fashionistas in my collection. and then i decided i was being silly and if i liked them, i should get them! there’s a few fashionistas that i really like and a lot that i really do not like lol  

the three dolls i like from the bmr1959 line. i’m considering a ken doll from the newest wave because i love his red hair and freckles. but these are from the first wave and i originally really did not like this line. and then some of the dolls really grew on me. i love the left one’s edges and her rings. the one in the middle is curvy (and i love curvy barbies) and i think her outfit is ugly in a fun way. the one on the right is affectionately called dyke barbie. i love her and she’s a huge lesbian. 

the one on the left is a curvy mtm in the extra outfit that came with the one in the middle who is my most expensive barbie! she’s from a doll convention (that i didn’t go to) but i have wanted her since i saw her years ago and my partner bought her for me :)) she’s a curvy doll and she’s absolutely beautiful and i made all of my coworkers look at her pictures before i got her in the mail. and the one on the right is the lifestyles of the west barbie (i think from 1998) and i saw her on instagram and immediately got on ebay and bought her because i love her so much. i usually sit around and contemplate how much i really want a barbie before i buy one and i let the computer tab sit open for a while but i literally bought her the moment i found her on ebay. her skirt is AMAZING. it’s all quilted. her hair is so soft and i love her natural face. you can’t see them but she has little cowboy boots that literally made me cry when i opened the box. 

1999/2000 (i’m pretty sure? i’m so tired, i don’t remember years) birthday barbie! i had a mcdonalds version of her as a kid and desperately wanted the actual doll. she looks like a big cake. she’s absolutely beautiful. and then 1996 holiday barbie! i had her as a kid, probably secondhand from a cousin, and my mom insists i didn’t. but i did. she’s technically the first barbie in this collection! i was telling my partner how much i loved barbies and wish i could have them again but i’m not a kid. and the conversation led me to realize i’m an adult so i can have as many barbies as i damn well please. 

the inspiring women line!! the only line i have every doll from. my partner got me amelia earhart for my birthday this year, even though she was hard to find for a reasonable price. and i’m a heathen and i took her out of the box. i think the billie jean king one is my favorite. she’s adorable and we played “philadelphia freedom” by elton john while i took her out of the box and i like the memory. 

scully and mulder from x files (blurry picture because they’re on a high shelf and i’m too lazy to get on a chair). they look exactly like the actors and it is so funny to me. my partner commissioned me and paid me in these. our mail carrier for our last apartment never left the mail so we shipped them to my office so picture me standing on a packed subway car clutching two x files barbies. 

barbie that i got last year for my birthday! sorry barbie that i shoved you in the corner of the bookshelf. despite not really loving toy story, there’s a lot of toy story stuff in our apartment. i have a really beautiful bo peep doll but she’s not a barbie so she’s not here, i’m sorry. 

fashionistas that a coworker gave me for my birthday this year that got tucked in by the air conditioner. actually i took the head off the one on the right and put it on a mtm body and now these two barbies are naked in my desk drawer. 

my mtms! i replaced the one on the left’s head with the head from the above barbie on the left’s head because i liked her face and hair more! but i’m way too lazy to get new pictures! 

i have a rainbow hair one on my desk at work but i haven’t been to my office in a while! i can’t find one but my coworkers keep pretending to take her hostage and sending me pictures. 

that’s my barbies! there’s a few i want but haven’t gotten, like magic earring ken and the 2020 barbie presidential campaign set. but! i’m trying not to spend so much money right now and again, my apartment is small.

Man I miss the Original articulated Barbie Fashionistas line (2009-2013), it was such a great line with so many great dolls and awesome outfits. I get sorta nostalgic looking back on it as it was the big barbie line going on when I was first getting into dolls.

The Blue Dress Girl from Clutch Wave 2 (last 2 pics) was the 3rd ever doll I bought for myself, and still one of my personal favorites (even if her neck is cracked and taped up, her hair is cut, and her dress is falling apart). I remember Getting her at the big lots right by my house in 2013, and being really happy I finally had an articulated barbie. Her Dress has always been one of my favorites about that era, and I really wanna get a 2nd one of her new.  I got a Swappin styles Glam from that same store not too long after, and I have one or 2 other original fashionistas dolls. The original 2009 Glam is one of my holy grail dolls, I just Adore everything about her. 

The Party Dress Era is just so Iconic, probably the last time barbie was good imo. It really bums me out to see the name used for the really basic and cheap main barbie line going on right now. I hope someday Mattel can climb back up to this level of quality and style for barbie.
